Restorative Response to Harm/Restorative Discipline

This training is designed for school personnel responsible for school safety and discipline including administrators, teachers, counselors and social workers. ‘Introduction to Restorative Principles and Practices’ and ‘Introduction to Circle Practice’ (or similar training) are pre-requisites for participation, and participants are expected to have some experience using the restorative process. Participants will have the opportunity to gain more practice using the restorative approach, including Circles, to address conflict and respond to harm as well as engage in peer supported problem solving to increase skills. The training will draw correlations between understanding the impact of trauma on student behavior and the use of restorative practices, and will introduce mindfulness techniques to develop self-regulation capacity for both students and adults. The effects of unconscious bias will be explored and its impact on student behavior and the relationships between students and adults in the school setting.
